Aged to Perfection

A piece of South Dakota history, this reclaimed home sits on a desirable cul-de-sac in Southwest Sioux Falls. From the warm rustic style to the modern smart features, every detail has been given thoughtful attention. Reclaimed barn wood adorns even the smallest of spaces throughout this four-bedroom, three-bath Hometown Remodeling home. Every bit of woodwork, from the floor to the ceiling, is authentic barn wood salvaged from a 97-year-old barn in Armour, SD. Giving this aged wood life again has been on the owner’s wish list for quite some time.
Two large wooden columns stand atop dry stack stone ledges, and leads guests through the Craftsman-style front door. A dark, stamped concrete front patio invites guests in with a warm welcome.
As you enter this home, your eyes are immediately drawn up to the eleven-foot tray ceiling with salvaged wood inlay. Each slat differs in texture and color, making it a true work of art. Another antique masterpiece hangs above the staircase. The chandelier, originally from a church, was given a fresh coat of paint and a second chance in this home.
Throughout the main floor, distressed Hickory floors set the tone for this rustic, yet contemporary, home. In the great room, a stone gas fireplace with concrete hearth pairs wonderfully against custom built-in shelves and cabinets. The shelves and cabinets, stained a dark brown color, were manufactured out of the barn.
A custom grey concrete base sits below the fireplace, adding a unique design element. Black metal accents and simple hardware lend to a barn-like feel, while thick floating shelves create a sleek, modern style.
The kitchen and dining areas are just steps away from the open-concept great room. Patterned granite countertops pop against custom white cabinets, while open shelving balances a slim stone backsplash. A dark painted island sits below an artistic ceiling; blue-hued backlights and suspended Edison pendants shine on the salvaged wood beams that sit within the tray ceiling. An undermount sink and oil rubbed bronze fixtures complement black stainless steel appliances. To the left of the space sits a large, hidden walk-in pantry, brightly lit via a useful motion sensor.
A charming built-in coffee bar with a framed chalkboard sits to the right, completing the stunning kitchen. The industrial style flows effortlessly into a three-season porch nearby. Perfect for grilling and dining outdoors, the screened-in porch is complete with a storm door and recessed lighting.
Near the master suite, a large walk-in dressing room features laundry hook-ups, a utility sink and light brown granite countertops. A tray ceiling, featuring crown molding and a soft blue background light, welcomes you into this relaxing retreat. An elegant built-in shelving unit provides practical storage for a TV and its components, and large vertical windows allow light to shine in. Plush, neutral carpet completes the sophisticated and airy master bedroom.
In the master bathroom, the heated tile flooring showcases an antique white pattern. Oil rubbed bronze fixtures pair nicely with the bright colors in the sanctuary. The partially glass-enclosed tile shower, complete with multiple rain shower heads, offers a respite after long days. A dainty neutral colored tile backsplash sits above the dual sinks and white granite countertops, and adds a delicate style to the luxurious bathroom. The strategically placed soaker tub allows homeowners to completely unwind and enjoy dazzling views of the stars through the custom barn wood skylight.
Located opposite of the master, Hickory flooring leads you to two guest bedrooms and a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. Each bedroom, from the master to the children’s rooms, features unique additions of barn wood and natural charm.
Although rustic in style, this home is equipped with the latest smart features including a security system, Bluetooth audio, surround sound, and controlled lighting. Homeowners can keep the family secure, listen to their favorite music, and turn on the Christmas lights from the comfort of an iPad or iPhone. With the help of new and reclaimed pieces, this one-of-a-kind home has left no detail untouched.
